CUCKALOO’S QUEST TO FIND GOD
Painting by artist Norma Wilson
Cuckaloo was on a quest. “Do you know where God is?” she asked Bunny.Bunny looked up and said, “God is in heaven above the clouds.”Cuckaloo smiled. What a lovely place for God to be.
Turtle was lying on a rock nearby soaking up the warmth of the sun. “God,” Turtle said, “is in the sunshine.”
Cuckaloo smiled and looked up at the sun. She loved how happy it made her feel. What a lovely place for God to be.
Fishie was swimming in the water and overheard them talking. “God,” Fishie said, “is in the water that helps me breathe.”
Cuckaloo smiled and put her claw in the water. It was so refreshing. What a lovely place for God to be.
Squirrel decided it was time to chime in. “God,” Squirrel said, “is in our hearts.”
Cuckaloo smiled and put her wing over her heart. It was filled with love. What a lovely place for God to be.
Then, an old snake slithered over. He said very seriously, “I have heard you talking about God. How can God be in heaven above the clouds and in the rays of the sunshine and in the water of the pond and in our hearts? I can only be in one place at one time!”
Cuckaloo, Bunny, Turtle, Fishie and Squirrel all looked at each other confused. Where could God be?
Just then, a young girl was walking by. “Hello,” she said to the animals.
The young girl seemed very friendly so Cuckaloo asked, “Excuse me. Do you know where God is?
Bunny says God is in heaven above the clouds.
Turtle says God is in the warm rays of the sun.
Fishie says God is in the water that fills the pond.
Squirrel says God is in our hearts inside our chests.
And snake says God cannot be in all those places at one time. What should we think?”
The young girl put her hand on her head and thought very hard.
Then, she put her other hand on her heart and took a deep breath. “God,” she said, “is in all those places. God is here, there and everywhere. God is in you, me and everybody.”
God is in heaven and on earth.God is in the sun and the moon.God is in the water and the wind.
God is in our hearts and our minds.
God is between you and me!”
Cuckaloo smiled and spread out her wings. “Yes,” she said, “that is exactly where God is.” And then Cuckaloo thought to herself, what a lovely place for God to be
